Attaboy books now for sale

Okay, so if you haven’t seen Attaboy’s stuff yet, go now. Seriously, this post will be here after you have gone to check him out.

We made some books for him for Comic Con and now he is selling them here. Atta is such a cool guy as well as a cool artist. Not only can you get his work on the books, but HOLY SNAP he also will do a sketch in them if requested. Honestly, how cool is that?!? See them here and here or check out the snapshots below. Thanks Atta for making something cool even cooler! Go check Attaboy out (if you didn’t listen to me above!!) and be sure to check ouy and/or RSS his Hi-Fructose site as well to keep up on many of the hottest artist talent out there right now. Thanks Atta for working with us!

Modofly books in the world

So at this point we have made a lot of books. If you have any of these books and are doing anything fun with them or just want to show them off in their new location, send us a snapshot. Show us a peek inside or snap the cover. Maybe you draw in it, or maybe you journal in it. Maybe you take it to the coffee shop, the job site, the business meeting, or maybe it lives in your bag or back pocket waiting for inspiration to hit.

Share this with us. We will post them here and at on our flickr site and our group pool:

Okay, so I won’t tell the story from my end because Adrian’s version of it is much better. What I will say is that Adrian’s super sweet proposal is making a lot of us guys out in the world look bad, and Radiohead is most definitely in my top five bands (the last comment will make more sense after you read the story):

Sowe recently got engaged. We are soon to be married. And a significant portion of our romantic engagement story we owe to a Modofly Moleskin journal. As a thanks to Jordan Pollard for making our sweet story possible, we would like to share with you:

The Tale of Anna and Adrian Getting Engaged in Paris

For Christmas this past year, I (Adrian) bought Anna two gifts: a personalized book embosser that read Library of Anna Rudman Reading Is Sexy (Anna is a bookworm and she has a pin in her car that reads Reading is Sexy that she loves!) and tickets to go see one of our favorite bands, Radiohead — in Paris. True, these presents will be hard to top, but as I selected her gifts, I was crafting a plan:

I knew that I was going to pop the question in Paris. However, I wanted a way to personalize it and not be cliché like some 90s Meg Ryan romantic comedy.

A good friend of mine, James LaCroix of LaCroix Designs, showed me the Modofly website a couple of months before our Paris trip. As I was scrolling through each journal on the site I stopped on one that really caught my eye. It was just a simple journal with the word LOVE etched on it.

It wasnt until a week before we were leaving for Paris that the idea came to me to use the LOVE journal as part of my plan to ask Anna to marry me. I randomly emailed Modofly about how to get the LOVE journal sent to me before we left. Jordan quickly responded and after a couple emails explaining the way I was going to propose, the LOVE journal arrived at my doorstep a day before we left for the trip. Jordan, I still owe you big time! During that time I had also ordered a new embosser with a whole new personalized message…

Engagement ring, check.New book embosser, check and fresh off the press LOVE etched Modofly journal, check checkcheck. Now I was ready to leave. I hid each item ever so carefully in my luggage and we headed to Paris.

Prior to leaving for Paris I did a little research and found the perfect place to proposethe Shakespere and Co bookstore. This bookstore has a lot of history and overlooks the Seine River and Notre Dame Cathedral. Our first night in Paris, we went straight to the Shakespere and Co bookstore. However we got lost and didnt find the place until after it closed for the evening. Bummed that we couldnt go in, we sat in front of the bookstore to figure what we were going to do next. As we were sitting, I told Anna that I got her a couple gifts for the trip. I first pulled out the journal and she was immediately wowed by it. Then I gave her the embosser. She was confused and asked why would I bring her embosser all the way to Paris? I told her that it was a new embosser just for her new journal.

I then asked her to try the embosser on the inside of the journal. By the time she stamped the page and read the new personalized message left by the embosser I was down on one knee with a ring in my hand.

The embosser read, Anna Will you Marry Me? Adrian

Anna immediately started to tear up but didnt answer my question so I started to giggle and said, So? Through her tears of joy and surprise she said yes.

Our wedding is set for October 26. Thanks again Jordan for helping me make this moment extra special!

Wow. You go boy with all your wicked cool planning. Glad Modofly could play a part for you two!

If any of you others have stories of what you have done with your books, please send them in and we will post them!

The Gods smile down on Modofly

In a bizarre coincidence, five MODOFLY artists (Matt Cipov, Dan Hillier, Marshall Stokes, Fabiola Garza, and Phoebe (aka Peebers) Scott) appear at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts during the same month-long exhibit. Perhaps the biggest surprise of all was Phoebe’s “Abscess” which earned top billing at the newly constructed community center. It marks the first time, a canine has made such an enormous leap and crossed over from subject to creator. Bravo, Phoebe! We look forward to seeing more of this kind of raw, uninhibited genius in the future.

For Artists Submitting

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for everyone that has been submitting. If you have not heard from us, do not fret. We have been slammed with work, getting orders out, and sifting through the email. You will hear back from us sometime AFTER the deadline when we have had a chance to pin it all up and spend some time looking at it all.

Again thanks, and I can honestly say, some KILLER cool stuff has come through the tubes!

Call for Submissions: (Deadline August 10th!!)

Hey everybody!

It’s that time again. Thanks to all the amazing artists working with us for the last go round, we got the word out and got a wonderful response! Now it’s time to do it all over again, but this time with two themes.

The first theme we are calling “Girly” or “Femme”

We are looking for work that women and girls alike will gush over. We have been accused by some of the female folk of being weak on the feminine front with our books, so we want you to help us solve this (Okay, we get it! Kez and I are boy nerds full of tech lust, and you need to show us the way). So send us work that your girlfriend will gush over, your mom will kiss you for, your wife will give you some marital points, or a new mom will get down to filling with all the details of life

The second theme is……STEAMPUNK:

Get your steampens and steambrushes (maybe steampunked computer?) ready artists! We are looking for steampunk art in a BAD way. We are really excited about this. We already have some of the hottest steampunk artists working with us, but maybe we don’t know about you, we have been trying to get you, or maybe this will be your first steampunk attempt. We are looking for artwork with airships, gears, steam engines, steampunk fashion, anything fun and retro-futuristic (we aren’t going to get too picky as long as its super cool). We can’t wait to unveil these books and showcase the artists, so make sure you have a shot at the action and send your stuff in today!

If you have ANY questions or work you want to send in, shoot them to submissions@modofly.net

ADDED NOTE:

Artists retain all ownership of work. If we choose to produce the work that is submitted, they are added to the group and get all the updates and behind the scenes information on everything that is going on. Artists get 10% royalty on all items of theirs that are sold and are paid quarterly. We also blurb any and all information about the artists, all books are sold with artist bio’s, and when custom work comes in through larger orders, we refer them to the artists (artists get the commission), and we take no fees.

John Golden Resin Tutorial

So if you don’t know John Golden’s stuff, but you should. You’ve seen Ultray and Silver Bullet right? Well, not only is Mr. Golden’s stuff pure gold, but he is sharing with you the “how-to’s” of resin jewelry making. Check it:

Attaboy

Attaboy’s stuff came out sweet, but the quick shots I took are not near as good as the ones he took, so I stole these from his flickr. Check him, and his sweet work out, and if you are at ComicCon, go say hi for me since I am not there.

Noah’s Moleskine

Hey everyone, I had to post this cool shot of Noah Scalin’s (of Skull a Day) book that he took a shot of. Its pretty sweet. If you aren’t familiar with Noah’s site and what he is doing, please check out his site. He has a book out chronicling his skull creation out through Barnes and Noble coming this October. If you have been following his work, you are probably looking forward to it as I most definitely will be looking forward to see it! I also look forward to carving out some time to do some more of his designs on the book covers.

If you want to see a larger shot of it and more books, check out our Flickr page.

Amy Hunting in the web world

So fellow Modofly collaborator Amy Hunting is making some internet waves (I know she hit Boing Boing the other day which I am SURE increased traffic to her site) with her Patchwork Series of sassy furniture crafted from cut-offs and material drop from factories in Denmark. Go check them out, give her a kudos, and tell her you must have them. Congrats Amy! It looks awesome!
